Hymn

O Radiance of the Father

Thyself our light and day

We rise at night to seek thee

Assist us Christ we pray

Drive from our souls all darkness

All thoughts and dreams of ill

Comfort all our sorrows
All worries calm and still

Make strong our faith within us

Bid fears in fear to flee
Draw close in loving kindness

And hear thy children’s plea

O God the Father, Spirit, Son
Holy three, eternal One
In this we ask thy will be done
And grant thy Kingdom soon to come

Psalmody

A Selection from the Psalter or
One or more of the Psalms below is read

Psalm 6:1 O Lord, do not rebuke me in Thine anger, nor chasten me in Thy wrath.
Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am pining away; Heal me, O LORD, for my bones are

dismayed.
And my soul is greatly dismayed; But Thou, O LORD– how long?
Return, O LORD, rescue my soul; Save me because of Thy lovingkindness.
For there is no mention of Thee in death; In Sheol who will give Thee thanks?
I am weary with my sighing; every night I make my bed swim, I dissolve my couch with my

tears.
My eye has wasted away with grief; it has become old because of all my adversaries.
Depart from me, all you who do iniquity, for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.

The LORD has heard my supplication, The LORD receives my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly dismayed; they shall turn back, they shall

suddenly be ashamed.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.

18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous; But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
20 He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.

21 Evil shall slay the wicked; and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
22 The LORD redeems the soul of His servants; and none of those who take refuge in Him will

be condemned.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 27:7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, and be gracious to me and answer me.

When Thou didst say, “Seek My face,” my heart said to Thee, “Thy face, O LORD, I shall

seek.”
Do not hide Thy face from me, do not turn Thy servant away in anger; Thou hast been my

help; do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation!
10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me up.
11 Teach me Thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a level path, because of my foes.
12 Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against

me, and such as breathe out violence.
13 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In

the land of the living.
14 Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the LORD.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 51:1 Be gracious to me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Thy compassion blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
Against Thee, Thee only, I have sinned, and done what is evil in Thy sight, So that Thou art

justified when Thou dost speak, and blameless when Thou dost judge.
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.
Behold, Thou dost desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part Thou wilt make

me know wisdom.

Lord, hear my voice! Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

If Thou, LORD, shouldst mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared.
I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope.
My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the

watchmen for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is lovingkindness, and with Him is

abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost,
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

13 His soul will abide in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land.
14 The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him, and He will make them know His

covenant.
15 My eyes are continually toward the LORD, for He will pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses.
18 Look upon my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.
19 Look upon my enemies, for they are many; and they hate me with violent hatred.
20 Guard my soul and deliver me; do not let me be ashamed, for I take refuge in Thee.

Psalmody

A Selection from the Psalter or
One or more of the Psalms below is read

Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.

10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.

11 Moreover, by them Thy servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults.
13 Also keep back Thy servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I shall

be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O

LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.

13 With my lips I have told of all the ordinances of Thy mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Thy testimonies, As much as in all riches.

15 I will meditate on Thy precepts, and regard Thy ways.

Psalm 22:7 All who see me sneer at me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads, saying,
“He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”
Yet Thou art He who didst bring me forth from the womb; Thou didst make me trust when

upon my mother’s breasts.
10 Upon Thee I was cast from birth; Thou hast been my God from my mother’s womb.

11 Be not far from me, for trouble is near; For there is none to help.

12 Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
13 They open wide their mouth at me, as a ravening and roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted

within me.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And Thou dost lay

me in the dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my

hands and my feet.
17 I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;
18 They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

              Additional Prayers

O Lord Jesus Christ, who at this sixth hour of the day didst hang from the Cross for the redemption of the world, and didst shed Thy precious Blood for the remission of our sins; grant, we humbly beseech Thee, that in all our labors this day, we may have Thy work on the Cross before our eyes and the hope of the resurrection within our hearts; this we ask in thy name, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God, who alone gave us the breath of life, and alone can keep alive in us the holy desires thou dost impart; We beseech thee, for thy compassion’s sake, to sanctify all our thoughts and endeavors; that we may neither begin an action without a pure intention nor continue it without thy blessing. And grant that, having the eyes of the mind opened to behold things invisible and unseen, we may in heart be inspired by thy wisdom, and in work be upheld by thy strength, and in the end be accepted of thee as thy faithful servants; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

V. Bless the Lord.

Psalmody

A Selection from the Psalter or
One or more of the Psalms below is read

Psalm 51:14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, Thou God of my salvation; Then my tongue will joyfully sing of Thy righteousness.

15 O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Thy praise.

16 For Thou dost not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; Thou art not pleased with burnt offering.

17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.

18 By Thy favor do good to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 106:3 How blessed are those who keep justice, who practice righteousness at all times!

Remember me, O LORD, in Thy favor toward Thy people; Visit me with Thy salvation,
That I may see the prosperity of Thy chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Thy

nation, that I may glory with Thine inheritance.
We have sinned like our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.

Our fathers, when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wondrous works; they did not

remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name, That He might make His power known.

Thus He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up; and He led them through the deeps, as through a desert.

10 So He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11 And the waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left.

12 Then they believed His words; They sang His praise.

13 But they quickly forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel,
14 In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 119:169 Let my cry come before Thee, O LORD; Give me understanding according to Thy word.

170 Let my supplication come before Thee; Deliver me according to Thy word.

171 Let my lips utter praise, For Thou dost teach me Thy statutes.
172 Let my tongue sing of Thy word, for all Thy commandments are righteousness.

173 Let Thy hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen Thy precepts.
174 I long for Thy salvation, O LORD, and Thy law is my delight.
175 Let my soul live that it may praise Thee, and let Thine ordinances help me.
176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Thy servant, for I do not forget Thy

commandments.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalmody

A Selection from the Psalter or

Psalm 85:7 Show us Thy lovingkindness, O LORD, and grant us Thy salvation.
I will hear what God the LORD will say; For He will speak peace to His people, to His godly

ones; but let them not turn back to folly.

Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land.
10 Lovingkindness and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11 Truth springs from the earth; and righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 Indeed, the LORD will give what is good; and our land will yield its produce.
13 Righteousness will go before Him, and will make His footsteps our pathway.

Psalm 32:1 How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered!
How blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there

is no deceit!
When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long.

For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the

fever heat of summer. Selah.
I acknowledged my sin to Thee, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my

transgressions to the LORD”; And Thou didst forgive the guilt of my sin.

upon Thee.
Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; and give heed to the voice of my supplications!
In the day of my trouble I shall call upon Thee, for Thou wilt answer me.
There is no one like Thee among the gods, O Lord; Nor are there any works like Thine.
All nations whom Thou hast made shall come and worship before Thee, O Lord; And they

shall glorify Thy name.

I have become estranged from my brothers, and an alien to my mother’s sons.
For zeal for Thy house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach Thee have

fallen on me.
10 When I wept in my soul with fasting, it became my reproach.
11 When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.
12 Those who sit in the gate talk about me, and I am the song of the drunkards.
13 But as for me, my prayer is to Thee, O LORD, at an acceptable time, O God, in the greatness

of Thy lovingkindness, Answer me with Thy saving truth.

Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand.

who fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

V. Let us worship the Lord with gladness
R. Let us bow down before Him and worship

V. Let us worship thee O Lord with our whole heart
R. And serve thee with thy whole creation

R. The Lord be with you.
V. And with thy spirit.
R. Let us pray

OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we
forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

V. But Thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
R. Thanks be to God.

V. Send out Thy light and Thy truth, that they may lead us.
R. And bring us unto Thy holy hill, and to Thy dwelling.

V. Turn us again, O Lord God of Hosts.
R. And pour out thy Spirit upon us.

V. Write thy Law upon our hearts
R. and restore to us the joy of thy salvation.

V. O Lord, hear our prayer.
R. And let our cry come unto thee.
V. Let us pray.

O GOD, who makes us glad with the weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of thy Son our Lord; Vouchsafe that our worship of thee this Lord’s day, may be pleasing in thy sight and a blessing to thy people; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O gracious Lord, who in thy holy Sacrament hath left us a memorial of thy passion; grant us, so to partake of the Sacred Mysteries of thy Body and Blood, that we, receiving them by faith, may enjoy the fellowship of thy spiritual presence with us at the Table; and may be nourished by the grace of thy onetime sacrifice; and this we ask in thy name who art our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

Draw near, O merciful God, and protect us through the silent hours of this night; keep us in thy goodness O Lord without sin; so that, when the morning hours come, we may enter thy house with praise, and worship thee in the beauty of holiness; this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. Let us bless the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

V. May the Lord Almighty and Merciful, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, vouchsafe to bless us and keep us this night.

R. Amen.

At some point after corporate Worship this prayer may be said

Thanksgiving for Sunday Worship

Most Gracious and Loving God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, we praise thee for the gift of worshiping thee in thy house; we especially glorify thee for thy Word; may thy Spirit conform us to it; we bless thee for thy Table; may we be strengthen by your ongoing presence and grace at work in our lives; we thank thee for our fellowship; may we grow together in unity; and we beseech thee, O Lord, stir up that holy desire in us; that we may love thee and thy ways and serve thee and thy will, joyfully throughout this week; in the name of Jesus Christ our mediator and redeemer. Amen
