Lent- Sext

V. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

 R. Amen.

V. O Lord, open thou our lips.

 R. And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.

V. Receive, O Lord, our prayers this hour

R. The offering to you of this day. Amen

Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God

We confess to God almighty,

    the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost,

    that we have sinned in thought, word and deed,

    through our own grievous fault.

    Wherefore we pray God to have mercy upon us.

A period of silence for reflection may follow.

    Almighty God, have mercy upon us,

    forgive us all our sins and deliver us from all evil,

    confirm and strengthen us in all goodness,

    and bring us to life everlasting;

    through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    Amen.

O Lord, we beseech thee, mercifully hear our prayers, and grant us Absolution and Remission of all our sins, true repentance; amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of Thy Holy Spirit. Amen.

V. O Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from this body of death?

R. Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

 R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalmody

A Selection from the Psalter or

One or more of the Psalms below is read

Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.

 10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.

 11 Moreover, by them Thy servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.

 12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults.

 13 Also keep back Thy servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression.

 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

 R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 119:10 With all my heart I have sought Thee; Do not let me wander from Thy commandments.

 11 Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee.

 12 Blessed art Thou, O LORD; teach me Thy statutes.

 13 With my lips I have told of all the ordinances of Thy mouth.

 14 I have rejoiced in the way of Thy testimonies, As much as in all riches.

 15 I will meditate on Thy precepts, and regard Thy ways.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

 R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 22:7 All who see me sneer at me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads, saying,

 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!"

 9 Yet Thou art He who didst bring me forth from the womb; Thou didst make me trust when upon my mother's breasts.

 10 Upon Thee I was cast from birth; Thou hast been my God from my mother's womb.

 11 Be not far from me, for trouble is near; For there is none to help.

 12 Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.

 13 They open wide their mouth at me, as a ravening and roaring lion.

 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me.

 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And Thou dost lay me in the dust of death.

 16 For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.

 17 I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;

 18 They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

 R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Scripture Reading

The following short lessons or another suitable passage is read

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

R. Thanks be to God.

Romans 8:3 What the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

R. Thanks be to God.

Colossians 4:5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned, as it were, with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each person.

R. Thanks be to God.

V. Proclaim the good tidings of His salvation.

R. Tell of His glory among the nations

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with thy spirit.

V. Let us pray.

The Kyrie may be said in place of the Lord’s Prayer provided the Lord’s Prayer is said once during the morning hours and once during the evening hours

V. Lord, have mercy upon us.

 R. Christ, have mercy upon us.

 V. Lord, have mercy upon us.

OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

V. O Lord, hear our prayer.

 R. And let our cry come unto Thee.

 V. Let us pray.

Here at least two prayers are said: the Collect of the day (from the past Sunday or specific for the day) and the first prayer provided below

If the Collect be already said, a prayer from the Additional Collects may be used or both prayers provided below may be used

O Lord Jesus Christ, who at this sixth hour of the day didst hang from the Cross for the redemption of the world, and didst shed Thy precious Blood for the remission of our sins; grant, we humbly beseech Thee, that in all our labors this day, we may have Thy work on the Cross before our eyes and the hope of the resurrection within our hearts; this we ask in thy name, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God, who alone gave us the breath of life, and alone can keep alive in us the holy desires thou dost impart; We beseech thee, for thy compassion's sake, to sanctify all our thoughts and endeavors; that we may neither begin an action without a pure intention nor continue it without thy blessing. And grant that, having the eyes of the mind opened to behold things invisible and unseen, we may in heart be inspired by thy wisdom, and in work be upheld by thy strength, and in the end be accepted of thee as thy faithful servants; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

V. Bless the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.
