V. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

R. Amen.

V. O Lord, open thou our lips.

R. And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.

V. Receive, O Lord, our prayers this hour

R. The offering to you of this day. Amen

Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God

Almighty and most Merciful Father, We confess to thee,

that we have sinned against thee,

we have not loved thee or loved our neighbor;

but have turned from thy commands

and followed the devices and desires of our own hearts;

A period of silence for reflection may follow.

But thou O Lord have mercy upon us;

forgive us all our sins,

renew and strengthen us with thy grace,

and lead us in thy holy ways;

this we ask in the Name of Thy Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen

O Lord, we beseech thee, mercifully hear our prayers, and grant us Absolution and Remission of all our sins, true repentance; amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of Thy Holy Spirit. Amen.

V. O Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from this body of death?

R. Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalmody

A Selection from the Psalter or

One or more of the Psalms below is read

Psalm 51:14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, Thou God of my salvation; Then my tongue will joyfully sing of Thy righteousness.

 15 O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Thy praise.

 16 For Thou dost not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; Thou art not pleased with burnt offering.

 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.

 18 By Thy favor do good to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

 R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 106:3 How blessed are those who keep justice, who practice righteousness at all times!

 4 Remember me, O LORD, in Thy favor toward Thy people; Visit me with Thy salvation,

 5 That I may see the prosperity of Thy chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Thy nation, that I may glory with Thine inheritance.

 6 We have sinned like our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.

 7 Our fathers, when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wondrous works; they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.

8 Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name, That He might make His power known.

 9 Thus He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up; and He led them through the deeps, as through a desert.

 10 So He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

11 And the waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left.

 12 Then they believed His words; They sang His praise.

 13 But they quickly forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel,

14 In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

 R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 119:169 Let my cry come before Thee, O LORD; Give me understanding according to Thy word.

 170 Let my supplication come before Thee; Deliver me according to Thy word.

 171 Let my lips utter praise, For Thou dost teach me Thy statutes.

 172 Let my tongue sing of Thy word, for all Thy commandments are righteousness.

 173 Let Thy hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen Thy precepts.

 174 I long for Thy salvation, O LORD, and Thy law is my delight.

 175 Let my soul live that it may praise Thee, and let Thine ordinances help me.

 176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Thy servant, for I do not forget Thy commandments.

V. GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

 R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Scripture Reading

The following short lessons or another suitable passage is read

Mark 15:33 And when the sixth hour had come, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?"

R. Thanks be to God.

Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

R. Thanks be to God.

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ

R. Thanks be to God.

V. Create in me a clean heart, O God

R. And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with thy spirit.

V. Let us pray.

The Kyrie may be said in place of the Lord’s Prayer provided the Lord’s Prayer is said once during the morning hours and once during the evening hours

V. Lord, have mercy upon us.

 R. Christ, have mercy upon us.

 V. Lord, have mercy upon us.

OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

V. O Lord, hear our prayer.

 R. And let our cry come unto Thee.

 V. Let us pray.

Here at least two prayers are said: the Collect of the day (from the past Sunday or specific for the day) and the first prayer provided below

If the Collect be already said, a prayer from the Additional Collects may be used or both prayers provided below may be used

O Lord Jesus Christ, who at this ninth hour didst breath thy last and by thy death on the Cross didst open unto us the way of life; grant that we, who are washed in thy blood and healed by thy wounds, may grow day by day in thy grace, counting as loss the things of this world that we might know the power of thy resurrection and the sure hope of thy return; who was, and is, and is to come, the Almighty. Amen.

O GOD, the King eternal, who divides the day from the darkness, and turns the shadow of death into the morning; Drive far off from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep thy law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that having done thy will with cheerfulness while it was day, we may, when the night cometh, rejoice to give thee thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. Bless the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.
